What is false about the UAE Golden Visa
Seven claims we are asked about weekly, each with the correction and the source. One of them was denied by the authority itself.

The claim, then the correction.
“There is a AED 100,000 lifetime Golden Visa”
ICP publicly denied this on 9 July 2025. No lifetime visa exists at any price. The claim circulated through unlicensed intermediaries and was repeated by mainstream outlets before the denial.
“The Golden Visa gives visa-free travel”
A residence permit is not a passport. Your travel access depends on your nationality plus bilateral arrangements. A UAE residence permit can ease some visa applications and some on-arrival routes; it does not replace them.
“It ends my tax obligations back home”
Most countries tax on residence, and some on citizenship regardless of where you live. Holding a UAE residence visa does not, by itself, sever tax residency elsewhere. This is the most expensive misunderstanding in the cluster.
“The Golden Visa leads to UAE citizenship”
It is a renewable ten-year residency with no naturalisation pathway attached. Naturalisation exists in narrow, nomination-led form and is unrelated to the property route.
“A GCC unified visa already exists”
A unified GCC tourist visa has been agreed in principle and repeatedly delayed. It is a short-stay tourist instrument in any case, not a residency, and it has nothing to do with the Golden Visa.
“The threshold is still AED 10 million”
It was AED 10 million when the route launched in 2019 and has been AED 2 million since October 2022 under Cabinet Decision 65 of 2022.
“I can never leave the country for more than six months”
That 180-day rule applies to standard residence visas. GDRFA Dubai states Golden Residence holders are exempt, with residency becoming void only if it expires while the holder is abroad. One legal commentator disputes whether a formal exemption was enacted, so renew before expiry regardless.

Does a Golden Visa make me tax resident in the UAE?
Not by itself. UAE tax residency has its own statutory tests, and your home country has its own. Holding the visa does not automatically satisfy either.
